Our Story

Alcove Centre for the Arts was born from a desire to create more fun, exciting, and inclusive public spaces where creativity and community come together

Why We Started

We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to engage with the arts, free from financial, social, cultural, or physical barriers.

Alcove is a home for anyone who finds joy in art—whether you're a working artist, a hobbyist, an enthusiast, or someone simply looking for creative experiences.

A Hub for Community

More than just a venue, we are a community hub, providing a space to connect through our shared love of art and creativity as well as a platform for local emerging artists to share their work and access meaningful paid opportunities. Since our inception, we have supported over 100 local artists, helping them perform, exhibit, and teach their craft.

Our History

What began in the summer of 2016 as a monthly showcase called Raw Voices, then a series of pop-up art events across Calgary beginning in Summer 2021, Alcove quickly grew into something bigger. In 2023, we opened our first full-time Recreational Art Space in the heart of downtown in partnership with cSPACE—an area with few public gathering spaces. Here, people can attend events, take workshops, meet other creatives, or simply create art in a welcoming and inspiring environment.

As we continue to grow, our mission remains the same:

To make Calgary a city where creativity and artists can thrive and to build a stronger, more connected community.

Thank You to our Partners and Funders!
