Terms of Employment: Seasonal employment, Full-time (16-week contract) with the possibility of extension
Hourly Rate: $20/hour for 30 hours per week
Ideal start date: Monday, May 12th, 2025

This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;

  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN); and

  • Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.

International students and other temporary residents of Canada are not eligible.

Alcove Centre for the Arts

The Alcove Centre for the Arts is a nonprofit organization based in Calgary, AB with the aim of making art more accessible and to promote a vibrant arts sector.

We run a Recreational Art Space in downtown Calgary (244 7th Ave SW) where we host a range of artistic activities including workshops, events, and a drop-in art space that is open to the public with art supplies and instruments available for free. We also organize and take part in events outside of this space regularly. The Alcove’s arts programs cover a wide range of mediums including visual arts, music, textiles, crafts, creative writing, and more.

About the Role

We’re looking for an organized, enthusiastic, and hands-on Operations/Event Coordinator to lead the daily operations of our Recreational Art Space and act as a key ambassador for Alcove. You’ll play a central role in shaping a welcoming and inspiring environment while supporting a variety of events, workshops, and community partnerships.

The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of relevant experience in a retail, event, or administrative role (supervisory experience preferred). 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Act as a keyholder; responsible for opening and closing the space securely

  • Greet and engage with guests, providing info about activities and programs

  • Set up for workshops and events, including lifting equipment (amps, tables, couches, etc.)

  • Assist with event bookings and venue rental partnerships

  • Oversee general upkeep of the space, including cleaning and supply inventory

  • Support merchandise sales and donation transactions

  • Supervise and coordinate volunteers

  • Collaborate on interior layout and visual design improvements

  • Promote Alcove’s events and champion its mission, vision, and values

Must Have Skills/Qualities:

  • 2+ years of experience in a retail, event, or administrative role (supervisory experience preferred)

  • Strong organizational and communication skills (Google Workspace experience a plus)

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs / 23 kg

  • A passion for the arts and creative community spaces

  • Access to a personal laptop

Nice to Have Skills/Qualities:

  • Experience working with diverse communities

  • First Aid and/or CPR certification

  • Familiarity or involvement with Calgary’s local arts scene

Work Conditions

  • Hybrid: Mostly onsite work (Wednesday–Sunday), with some remote admin hours

  • Worksite: Downtown Calgary – 244 7 Ave SW

  • Evening and weekend availability required

  • You must have your own laptop or personal computer.
